After hours of searching through countless blogs, “too many good secrets” was the blog to finally catch my attention. The blog is written by a 24 year old college student living in Berkley, CA. She posts about her day to day life, thoughts, interests, along with random “tidbits.” Her blog seems to be a way of self expression, while being able to relate to others. She is very open and honest. She posts blogs not only about, but to her family and friends. I like how she writes to the reader, instead of just journal writing.
Her audience would obviously contain her family and friends. She writes to them and about them. She also writes to people who share the same interests she has, such as food, cooking, nature, simplicity, and so forth. She keeps the readers interest with photographs, quotes, videos, humor, and my favorite; sarcasm. She is very open about what she is thinking or feeling. For example, “The best thing I can do for myself is to be attentive, to watch carefully what is happening, to feel out the direction, to sense what movement I can.” (Caitlin 1) think this is what keeps the readers interested. Her love for so many things and “simple” lifestyle makes her a very likeable person, even without meeting her.
Her posts’ titles are interesting. She gives us a new spin, a new view of a topic or thought. She has a post: “superbowl sunday.” You would expect it to be about, well, the Super Bowl… only it not. It’s a simple thought and picture of what she probably saw that day. Another one, “curmudgeony” is not about old, archaic anything; but about how she is destined to be a miser by age 30. Her humor and sarcasm keeps me laughing, because I can definitely relate!
I think she is trying to point out the simple, yet enjoyable aspects in every area of life. She is trying to show us not to take a gorgeous sunset for granted, or to stop and tell your family how grateful you are to have them in your life. After reading a few of them, it made me stop and think about the things I tend to over look or take for granted.
I look forward to her future posts. It is interesting to see this clearly into someone else’s thoughts. I have gotten so used to people who are trying to hide their true identity, it is refreshing to see someone who isn’t.
